Laser welding repairs for press tools
After intensive training of an in-house team, Oerlikon Balzers has included laser welding within its in-house services. In particular, the precision machine can be used for the more efficient (e.g. without heating) welding of small repairs and corrections than is possible with conventional methods.
Conventional welding causes:
burnt edge and distortion |
high heat input |
the necessity of tool preheating |
structural changes |
Advantages of hand-controlled and positioned laser welding by Oerlikon Balzers:
function-orientated welding
hardness of the welding material between 55 – 60 HRC
low heat input
no distortion |
minimal finishing required |
no preheating required |
micro-welding with pulsed laser source |
Edge breakage (about 0,5 cm³) after application of a few weld seams |
Edge breakage after laser welding, finishing and BALINIT® VST DLC coating |
