In 1978 the official go-ahead was given for the development and market launch of  BALINIT®, a PVD coating. In 1983, Italy was the first site of a coating centre outside Liechtenstein. The move to America followed only one year later and the first centre in the Asian region started operations in Japan in 1987   The first center in the UK opened in Berkhamstead in 1986 and growth led to the move to the rapidly developing town of Milton Keynes in 1991, with a second UK centre opened in Elland, Yorkshire, in 1999.   Currently, Oerlikon Balzers offers coating services at more than 70 coating centres in 28 countries throughout Europe, America and Asia - a unique network that is continually expanding.
