Heavy-duty engines
In the eighties, pistons for in-line, distributor and single-cylinder
pumps for marine diesel and construction machinery engines and for
stationary engines (emergency generator units) were already being
PVD-coated by Oerlikon Balzers Coating.
It is precisely in these applications that the use of heavy oil and
contaminated fuels gives rise to premature wear and high maintenance
costs. It is for this reason that BALINIT®-coated pistons are original
equipment in injection pumps for heavy-duty engines.
