In 1978 the official go-ahead was given for the development and market launch of BALINIT®, a PVD coating. In 1983, Italy was the first site of a coating centre outside Liechtenstein. The move to America followed only one year later and the first centre in the Asian region started operations in Japan in 1987.

Currently, Oerlikon Balzers offers coating services at more than 80 coating centres in Europe, America and Asia - a unique network that is continually expanding. Every day, Oerlikon Balzers coats hundreds of thousands of tools and precision components.
